Our Pollinator Committee increases awareness of the declining pollinator population and offers ways to help encourage pollinator preservation. The committee promotes the planting of pollinator friendly native perennials and annual plants. We pass out seeds and information at the Farmer’s Markets in Libertyville and Deerfield and provide information to the surrounding schools to aid in student projects to plant for pollinators.
Last July, we worked with the Village of Lincolnshire Public Works and planted a certified Monarch Waystation Garden at Spring Lake Park. We encourage residents to come view the garden for inspiration. Moreover, all the plants are labeled in case you would like to plant for pollinators in your garden.
Plant List and Resources
Pam Karlson has created a Bird Oasis in her Chicago city garden. Pam is a Master Gardener and speaker. She has created this plant list including a wealth of information of bloom time and plant requirements. The plants on this list have been tested in our area, she has grown each of these plants in her oasis, the plants will survive our changing weather. Enjoy the birds.
